Lebanon can boast a wide range of cultural heritage and monumental areas, including 5 UNESCO sites, which have been badly damaged during the war in 2006. Since then, the degradation of the monuments and archaeological sites has caused several stakeholders to start concrete actions of protection, among which the Cultural Heritage and Urban Development – CHUD, to which Italy participates with the World Bank.
In the framework of a partnership between ASSORESTAURO (Italian Association in the restoration sector) and ICE_Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies, a workshop is to be held in Beirut soon (July 24th-28th). The action comes as a second edition after the workshop about restoration techniques held in 2016, which was attended by 9 Italian companies and 48 Lebanese counterparts, including representatives of institutions and companies working in the sector. Consisting in a number of events, this year's workshop is aimed at involving the Italian companies working in the restoration sector, both members and non-members of Assorestauro. The objective is to learn more about the Lebanese market and meet prospective partners for the main ongoing restoration projects.
The action in Beirut will include a technical workshop, B2B encounters with Lebanese counterparts, study visits to museums, archaeological sites and restoration yards. Special issues of discussion will be the conservation of archaeological sites, the restoration of monumental sites, the creation of new museums.
