Modern Architecture Restoration

Modern Architecture Restoration
22th March Wednesday, from 2 pm to 6 pm

Ferrara, ‘Restoration-Museums’, Sala Massari

Organized by Assorestauro in the framework of “Restoration-Museums” in Ferrara, in collaboration with ICE and the Rolls of Architects of Ferrara and the Foundation of the Architects of Ferrara, the conference deals with the issue of Restoration of Modern Architecture, consistently with some initiatives held last year.
The training path suggested here is centred on finding an answer to the following questions: why and how to restore “modern” architecture? Reflecting on the notions of conservation and restoration and projecting their theoretical principles and operational practice in the contemporary scenario, where “modern” architecture is recognized as heritage needing protection in the same way as any ancient edifice, are today essential to deal conscientiously with any restoration of recent construction.
Studying and understanding modern architecture, investigating and learning about materials and structures are key preliminary steps to restoration design, to ensure that the most recent technological innovations and available materials are used and that the final intervention will be respectful and adapted to the original characteristics of the building.
